Nikki Criscolo, owner of Nikki Criscolo Photography, started
her photography career with a lifelong obsession with all things
equine. Although not raised around horses, she read about them,
groomed and rode them, dreamed about them, and photographed them
every chance she got. In college, while on a farm visit with a
friend shopping for a broodmare prospect, she suddenly found herself
the owner of a purebred Arabian filly. Thus began a deep involvement
with showing, breeding, and training Arabian horses, and the farm
now called Banner Arabians.
Nikki's background with the horses themselves is just as vital
to capturing top quality images as the knowledge of photography
itself. This level of personal experience allows her to know what
constitutes a flattering pose, setting, and look for each horse,
based on her own need to capture highlights and memories of her
own horses and to successfully market her breeding stock. As a
breeder and exhibitor of Arabian horses, Nikki understands the
varied needs of the owners: from capturing show ring highlights,
to showcasing a breeder's special foals, to the owner of a sales
prospect.
Originally, Nikki Criscolo used her photography skills simply
to create marketing materials for Banner Arabians. As her own
breeding farm took shape, she had plenty of occasion to use the
skills of experienced equine photographers, and is proud to have
been able to ask advice from noted Arabian photographers Don Stine,
Johnny Johnston, and Mike Ferrara.
Nikki's favorite photographic style is capturing the horse and
owner in candid settings, and this has yielded some of her most
noted photos to date.
Although Nikki's focus is on equine photography, she also enjoys
opportunities to take scenic and family portraits as well.
